PTA Co-Presidents' Message - March 2013

posted Mar 4, 2013, 2:32 PM by Craig Jesso
Although December & portions of January were deceiving, winter was definitely in full swing throughout February.  We hope that you were able to enjoy some fun winter activities with your families.  For those of you who are not big fans of winter, the end is near!!  The first day of spring will be upon us in just a few short weeks!  So, hang in there and keep warm!!

We would like to acknowledge and congratulate the two Sanborn Students who have progressed to the State Level for the Art Reflections program.  If their works of art are chosen, Christy Kirchner (5th grade) and Alexandr Petryshchuk (1st grade), will move on to the National Level for judging.  We wish them the best of luck as their artwork moves through to the next round(s) of judging.

A big THANK YOU goes out to all Room Representatives for planning and organizing all of the classroom Valentine’s Day parties.  It looked like all the students had a great time!  If you have any feedback/suggestions about your experience, please forward them to Julie Jesso @ julie@jessolution.com

The second BOX TOPS CONTEST ended February 15th.  Box Tops are currently being counted and the winner of the second contest will be announced soon!  For those of you who did not hear already, Mrs. Ives 5th grade class won the first Box Tops Contest of the year!  The PTA appreciates the commitment, from all of our student participants, for helping raise funds that benefit each and every student and their teachers.   Please be sure to continue clipping those box tops all year long!  Our next contest is scheduled to begin April 8th.

Mom’s & Munchies was another HUGE success!  Thanks to Tina Olson & Jodi Waddington for organizing another fabulous event.  We hope that many of you were able to participate in this free PTA activity with your children.

The Environmental Education focus for March will be on “Earth Hour”.  This is a worldwide event that is organized by the World Wildlife Fund.  This initiative encourages people globally to turn off all electronic devices, including lights, for one hour in order to help preserve the world’s natural resources. Earth Hour 2013 is scheduled for March 23rd @ 8:30pm.  For additional information, please take the time to check out the website  www.earthhour.org .  Many thanks go to Bob & Bridget Lasalle for their continued efforts in bringing great environmental awareness programming to the students of Sanborn.  In addition, we would like to commend the nearly 200 students who have participated in the environmental education activities that have been offered throughout the school year.  We hope to have your participation, along with many of your fellow classmates, in this month’s Earth Hour event.  Together, we can make a difference!!

Lastly, please remember to turn in your order form for the 2012-13 Sanborn Yearbook.  The deadline to turn in your order is March 15th.  A BIG thank you goes to Sara Cox who worked diligently to get the cost of each yearbook down to only $10 per copy.  If you have questions about the yearbook &/or have pictures from school events (e.g. Fall Fest, Classroom Parties) that you feel are yearbook worthy, please contact Sara Cox at sarakatherinecox@yahoo.com.
As always, do not hesitate to contact either of us with any questions &/or concerns.

Best Regards,
Jody Nieman & Jen Williams
